Orbital and radial forming answer it by working the material progressively rather than all at once, which needs up to 80% less force than a straight press. Should I use orbital forming or a press?
Orbital forming rolls the rivet or boss over under continuous pressure, using up to 80% less force than a straight press, so fragile housings, electronics, and soft metals keep their shape. A press wins when you're driving straight-line seating force. We carry both, so you get the method the joint needs.
What is hot upset forming?
It's Orbitform's answer for fasteners too hard to form cold: the process heats the tenon until it's malleable, then collapses it under pressure, without fusing the parts together. It suits high-torque, high-vibration joints and hardened fasteners that would crack under cold forming. Sizing and temperatures come from Orbitform's Solutions Lab on your actual parts, which is where we'd start you.
Can Orbitform prove the joint on my parts first?
Yes. Their Solutions Lab develops the rivet length, form, and tooling on your actual parts before you buy the machine, drawing on thousands of applications since 1984. Bring the part rather than a tonnage guess.
What sizes do the machines come in?
From bench riveters (the B-series) to powered production machines and inline forming stations, plus Milford impact riveters and the peen tooling and dies that go with them. The fastener and the throughput size the machine.
Can the forming force be documented for an audit?
