Ideal Applications
Most press decisions come down to one question: do you need to prove what happened on every cycle, or only that the part went together? That answer picks the machine, and the rest is sizing.
If the joint is straightforward and the volume is low, a manual or toggle press on the bench is enough. Add air and a hydro-pneumatic press gives you production force without a hydraulic system to maintain. When the process itself has to be controlled, an ElectricPress or ServoPress drives to a force and stroke you set, instead of bottoming out against a hard stop.
That last step is where PressControl 600/700 earns its keep. It records force against stroke on every cycle, so a bad joint is caught as it is made and the record already exists when a medical, aerospace, or defense customer asks for it. A ServoPress also stores a recipe per part, so one machine covers a family of assemblies rather than one setup.

What types of presses does Schmidt provide?
The full ladder on one platform: manual presses (rack-and-pinion, toggle, and cam), pneumatic presses (direct-acting and toggle), hydro-pneumatic presses that deliver hydraulic force with pneumatic speed, electric presses with no air at all, torque-motor presses, and fully programmable servo presses. Most families come in force-and-stroke-monitored versions, which is where Schmidt's traceability lives.
What's the maximum force a Schmidt press delivers?
The line runs from hand-lever presses measured in ounces up to the top servo press at 25 tons (250 kN). The right number for you comes off the joint, and we'll size it with you.
What makes a rack-and-pinion press different?
The gear drive delivers constant force over the entire stroke, where a toggle press multiplies force sharply at the bottom of the stroke. Constant-feel full-stroke work, seating, and press-fitting favor rack-and-pinion; short powerful finishing strokes favor the toggle. It's also why the manual rack-and-pinion press is the most frequently sold machine in our history: at the bench, feel matters.
How do I size press force for my assembly?
Start from the joint rather than a tonnage guess: the seating or staking force your part needs, plus margin, decides the press. Send us the part and we'll do the sizing with you.
Can I get force and stroke data for FDA or AS9100 traceability?
Yes, this is Schmidt's signature: PressControl monitoring plots a force-vs-stroke curve for every cycle, judges it OK or NOK against your tolerance windows, and stores the record per part. That's the documentation a medical or aerospace audit asks for.
Do I need a servo press, or will a manual press do?
Manual presses are the right answer at bench volumes with no documentation requirement. The servo earns its price when you need programmable stroke, force monitoring, or one machine running a family of parts on stored recipes. We'll tell you which side you're on.
What does an assembly press cost?
A manual bench press and a monitored servo press are different budgets, and the traceability requirement moves the number more than the tonnage does. Tell us the joint and whether it has to be documented, and we'll get you a ballpark quickly.
